to finish, keeping Sauber driver Sergio Perez and Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso behind him.
Hamilton, Perez and Alonso, who all had to retire after a heavy crash in last weekend's race at
Spa-Francorchamps, had better luck this time at Monza, the fastest circuit on the F1 calendar.
Current Championship leader Fernando Alonso had a particularly good day, starting the race from
tenth on the grid and finishing the race in third.
The Spanish Ferrari driver had good reason to be happy as his Red Bull rivals did not score points.
With Hamilton winning the Italian Grand Prix, he now sits in second in the Drivers Championship, 37
points behind Alonso. Lotus driver Kimi Räikkönen occupies third spot, with a total of 141 points,
one single point behind Hamilton, who is the second driver this year to win three races.
Hamilton's team mate Jenson Button, who won the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend, retired parking his McLaren on the grass in lap 34 of the race. With Button's retirement, a McLaren 1-2 was not possible this weekend in Italy.
