At Spa, Lotus had been tipped to win the Belgian Grand Prix, as the concept would have generated huge top speeds for Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen. However, both drivers were unable to test it in either of the first two practice sessions as they were both washed out by heavy rain. The Enstone-based team therefore made the decision to shelve the part for the duration of the Grand Prix weekend.
With Grosjean being suspended for next weekend's race at Monza, for causing a heavy crash at the start of the race in Belgium, Lotus is expected to confirm their third driver Jérôme d’Ambrosio, who raced for Marussia Virgin last year, to replace Grosjean at the Italian Grand Prix.
