With the Swiss team, the Mexican is enjoying a very good season, having finished on the podium three times, including last weekend at Monza where he overtook both Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa to finish second behind the McLaren of Lewis Hamilton.
Many believe that the Sauber driver will be replacing Brazilian Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, who has been struggling to score valuable points for Ferrari, prompting di Montezemolo to play down talk of Perez landing a Ferrari drive for next year back in June.
Although the Mexican continued to impress this season, the Ferrari President stresses that next year would still be too soon for Perez to join the Scuderia.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, di Montezemolo said: "Next season is too early. I'm very pleased for him [referring to his second place finish last weekend at Monza] because first of all it shows that our choice when we have picked up him as a young driver was good.
"Then it is thanks to Sauber and thanks to the Ferrari Academy that he grows up. To put a young guy to Ferrari with the pressure of Ferrari, you need more experience.
"
Di Montezemolo also said he would welcome German Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari in the future should the double World Champion leave his team.
"I think that Vettel is more or less in the condition like when Michael was in Benetton," di Montezemolo added. "He's younger, he's a very good driver and he's making a very good experience so in theory, if you have to ask me a name, I could tell you his name."
