Räikkönen, who won the 2007 F1 Drivers title with Ferrari, was initially tipped to take over Mark Webber's seat at Red Bull Racing next season, but negotiations with the Austrian team soon ended. With Räikkönen's current team, Lotus, not being able to provide assurance about its future investment and technical packages, the Finn's representatives held talks with other teams, including Ferrari.
At last weekend's Italian Grand Prix, the media were told by Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo that the team's 2014 Formula 1 driver line-up would be decided within days. It was only a matter of time before Ferrari would announce its second driver after Felipe Massa revealed via Twitter on Tuesday that he will be leaving the team at the end of 2013.
After four seasons since his last Grand Prix with Ferrari in Abu Dhabi, Räikkönen will replace his former team mate Felipe Massa to form a World Champion duo with Fernando Alonso in 2014. With Ferrari, the Iceman from Espoo has achieved 9 wins and 26 podium finishes so far.
