D'Ambrosio, who replaced Frenchman Romain Grosjean last time out at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, lost his Virgin F1 seat last year to Charles Pic and became Lotus' third and reserve driver in this year's campaign The Belgian hopes his outing in Italy, in which he finished 13th from 16th on the grid despite losing KERS early on in the race, will help securing him a full time seat in 2013.
The Enstone-based outfit is expected to keep their current driver line-up for 2013, leaving d'Ambrosio no chance but to look elsewhere. Team Principal of the Lotus team Eric Boullier says that other teams should consider the Belgian.
Speaking to Autosport, Boullier said: "I think if any team had a doubt about him they will understand now that he is fast and can be very serious and professional and deserves his place in Formula 1. He has been good. Any team principal should look at his pace. In the second half of the race he was clearly matching the pace of all the cars in front of him. He didn't put a foot wrong and he was professional and it was a very impressive weekend."
