When Japanese car manufacturer Toyota entered Formula 1 in 2001, McNish was hired to race for the season, racing alongside Mika Salo from Finland. Prior to his F1 career, the man from Dumfries had developed the Japanese company’s first Formula 1 car and in 1990 was test driver for McLaren. He became Renault's test and Friday driver in 2003, the season of Fernando Alonso’s maiden victory with the Enstone-based outfit.
The 42 year old Scot won the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours two times and has also celebrated four Sebring 12 Hour wins and three titles in the American Le Mans Series. McNish currently lies second in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
