Many believe that the Mexican has headed to Maranello as a direct result of his second place finish at Monza on Sunday, in a race where he overtook both Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso, but Ferrari insisted that there is no link.
A Ferrari statement reads: 'One man who will be getting used to the surroundings inside the Sporting Department will be Sergio Pérez, who will be making a visit to Maranello in accordance with an appointment that has been planned for months as part of his programme of work as a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Then on Thursday and Friday it will be Felipe Massa’s turn to proceed with the ‘virtual’ development work on the F2012.’
Ferrari Team Principal Stefano Domenicali carried out what has been described as a long meeting with Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo in order to take stock of the immediate future. No confirmation of whether this meeting included a decision on Felipe Massa's future at Ferrari.
