Pedrosa started from pole position, but it was American Yamaha rider Ben Spies who led the opening laps after overtaking the Spaniard early on. Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo did not have an ideal start, but was soon up into third, forcing his way past Italian Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Andrea Dovizioso.
Spies and Pedrosa were battling at the front in the early stages, as Jorge Lorenzo was unable to close the both of them down. Australian Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner forced his way past Alvaro Bautista with a good move. Pedrosa passed Spies to take the lead with another 24 laps to go. One lap later, Stoner was a man on a mission as he also got rid of Stefan Bradl to go fifth.
With 22 laps left, Ben Spies' engine blew down the straight, causing the oil flags to come out, with the Texan immediately pulling off the racing line. This affected the group right behind him, as Casey Stoner dropped back behind Andrea Dovizioso and Stefan Bradl.
Italians Michele Pirro and Danilo Petrucci were also robbed of any good luck as then had to retire with technical issues. Three laps later, Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Cal Crutchlow lost the front end of his bike in turn 4, unfortunately putting an end to his charge.
Stoner had fought his way back past his group into third, while Frenchman Randy de Puniet had to pull in with a mechanical issue.
Pedrosa had a big wobble with 12 laps to go, yet managed to stop himself running onto the grass. This did not stop the Spaniard and he soon rediscovered his rhythm. Five laps on, Italian Dovizioso was hunting down Stoner, who was fighting fearlessly with his injury, and took the Australian for third.
In the end it was Dani Pedrosa who stormed to his second victory of the season ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso, who took his fifth podium this year. Spain's Jorge Lorenzo is still leading the championship, though it has been cut to 18 points by Pedrosa.
It was however the reigning world champion, Casey Stoner, who arguably put in the best ride of the day, having gritted his teeth to finish a tremendous fourth despite injury. Spain's Alvaro Bautista came in fifth, ahead of German Stefan Bradl, ItalianValentino Rossi and Cardion AB rider Karel Abraham.
Avintia Blusens ridersYonny Hernandez became top CRT rider in ninth, ahead of Randy de Puniet’s teammate Aleix Espargaro.
