Two times World Champion Fernando Alonso is enjoying a 40-point lead in the Championship after claiming 3 race victories and 3 further podiums in the 11 races to date. His rivals will be quick to point out that he has benefitted from the rain on quite a few occasions as his victories in Malaysia and Germany came on the back of wet conditions in either qualifying or the race. Ferrari's technical chief, Fry concedes that the weather played its part, but is sure the F2012 is slowly getting better in dry conditions.
Speaking to Autosport, Fry said: "Obviously, if it had been a completely dry race in Malaysia, it would have been a different story. I don't think we can hide behind the fact that the weather has helped us out. Do I think we're the quickest in a dry qualifying? I don't think we are now, but in the last two wet sessions it has been more impressive."
The team has made a poor start to the season and were well off the pace of Red Bull and McLaren, but they have taken major strides forward. The car is likely to have major upgrades for the Belgian Grand Prix and Fry hopes they will once again have some "luck" with the weather.
"We just need to keep working at it," he said. "We're fortunate to be where we are - some of that is luck with the weather but then everyone's got those conditions. They've got to go and make the most of it.
"Yes, we were helped by the weather, but then why didn't other people take advantage of it?"
