Argentina To Host MotoGP Grand Prix In 2014

Coinciding with the two-day test at the Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo this week, Dorna Sports has announced that Argentina will join the MotoGP calendar next season. The second largest country in Latin America welcomed the premier class of motorcycle racing in 1999 for the last time, but is making its comeback next year.

With the date of the race yet to be made official, the Argentinian Grand Prix is confirmed to be the first round in South America since the 2004 Brazilian Grand Prix at the demised Autódromo Internacional Jacarepagua. From next year until 2016, MotoGP will set up camp in Santiago del Estero for the Argentinian Grand Prix, which will be held at the newly built Autodrómo Termas de Rio Hondo.

The 4.8km circuit has been subjected to a two-day test this week in order to check the safety of the track, the marshals and the general operation of the event in preparation for next year's inaugural race.
