Di Resta Handed Five Place Grid Drop, No Penalty For Alonso

Scottish Force India driver Paul di Resta has been handed a five place grid penalty ahead of Sunday’s race at Monza. There will be no consequences for Spanish Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso, whose gearbox broke in yesterday's second practice session.

Di Resta completed Friday practice without having any problems, but the issue was discovered by his team mechanics later in the day.

Spanish Ferrari driver and current Championship leader Fernando Alonso already suffered engine and brake issues, the Tifosi was concerned about a grid penalty when the Spaniard had to pull in from the second session because of a broken gearbox.

“As far as the gearbox and engine are concerned, they were units we were not planning to use in the race, so we will not incur any penalties tomorrow,” confirmed Ferrari Technical Director Pat Fry
