The first and only Formula racing driver from Chile raced F1 from 1981-83, during which time he drove for March, Ensign, ATS and RAM. His best result was a fifth place finish at the 1982 San Marino Grand Prix, a race won by Frenchman Didier Pironi.
Salazar has also contested WRC and IRL events, plus taken part in the Dakar Rally and 24 Hours of Le Mans. He picked up a podium finish in the legendary Indy 500 race in 2000.
