Having completed 97 laps around his home circuit, the Spaniard managed to stay ahead of Sauber's Nico Hülkenberg and Lotus' Romain Grosjean, who finished in second and third respectively. Alonso's team mate Felipe Massa will take over testing duties on Friday to conclude the first four-day test at the Montmelo venue.
