Toro Rosso Unveils The STR9 F1 Car In Jerez

Toro Rosso's STR9 has been unveiled on the eve of pre-season testing at the Jerez Circuit in Spain.

The first Renault-powered F1 car of the team, which will be driven by Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat, features a somewhat similar pointy nose design to the McLaren-Mercedes MP4-29, the Williams FW36 and the Sauber C33.

The STR9 already made its track debut earlier this month. The Faenza-based outfit released audio of its first run with the STR9 F1 car at the Misano track in Italy, giving fans a little preview of the Renault Energy power unit at high speed.

Toro Rosso has confirmed that Jean-Eric Vergne will have the honour of driving the team's new contender on the opening day of pre-season testing in Jerez, with rookie Daniil Kvyat's turning coming later in the four-day test.

The Italian team has become the fourth team to launch its 2014 car ahead of the new season, in which F1 will see the introduction of the new 1.6 litre V6 turbocharge power unit.

Last season Toro Rosso finished seventh in the Constructors' Championship and the team is hoping that its switch from Ferrari to Renault will allow it to move up the order.
