Hamilton Met With McLaren To Discuss Future

Vodafone McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has said that Lewis Hamilton has met with the team to discuss his future on several occasions over recent weeks. A new contract is expected to be signed over the summer, as the media continues to speculate about Hamilton.

Although the futures of the McLaren driver and Mercedes' Michael Schumacher are set to be rectified during the current break, no Schumacher announcement is likely before October.

Hamilton was also keen to resolve any queries over the four free weekends and his statement should come sooner.

“If Lewis wants to stay in the team, which he has told me he does, then he should do,” Whitmarsh is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “Lewis and I have spoken two or three times at length. I think we are closer than we have ever been. Our conversations have been about how we are going to beat the other teams and how we are going to try and win races.”
