Former F1 driver David Coulthard has driven a Red Bull F1 car around the streets of New Jersey and became the first man to do so. The same roads will play host to the Grand Prix of the United States in 2013, with the event promising to be the highlight of the calendar in June.
In a full-length video which will soon be released by Red Bull, the Scotsman drove an F1 car though the Lincoln Tunnel at speeds of up to 190 mph. He also navigated the Port Imperial street circuit, complete with a New York City skyline backdrop.
“I'm really looking forward to seeing what the final video looks like,” the BBC commentator said. “We've done Liberty State Park, the Lincoln Tunnel and the race track for next season. Bringing all those elements together, the combination of the high-speed stuff with the tracking shots, we're going to end up with something that will be really entertaining for the fans. The fans are already asking me on my Twitter account when they can see the footage, so there is a lot of excitement about Formula 1 coming to America.”
The New Jersey Grand Prix will become the second F1 race in the United States, as the United States Grand Prix returns this year in November with a brand-new venue in Austin, Texas.
